A Message from METNY:

Dear METNY, As everyone knows, there was another cataclysmic earthquake, this time on February 27, in Chile. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. As all of us were involved with our Purim celebrations, the people of Chile were undergoing a devastating earthquake, and are only now able to assess the damage--both physical and emotional. We have barely begun to meet the relief needs in Haiti, but for those of us who have been dealing with difficult weather conditions this winter, the reality of how small we are at the mercy of nature resonates with a sense of our own gratitude for survival, even as our sympathy goes out to those who affected by this natural disaster. We know that many members of our affiliated congregations will want to donate to earthquake victims in Chile as they did for Haiti. With that in mind, USCJ is collecting money together with Masorti Olami, the umbrella organization for Conservative synagogues across the world outside North America and Israel. There are six Conservative/Masorti shuls in Chile. Please click HERE to donate. May our brothers and sisters in Chile find physical safety and peace of mind in the days ahead. *KEN! YES! **Kosher Empty Nesters!
Our next KEN Shabbat dinner is March 12th At the home of Barbara & Dave Zucker
KEN has been having Shabbat Dinners together for since March of 2008. It has grown to be a wonderful experience for all who attend. We light candles, recite Kiddush or whatever the host family usually does on a Friday night. We've learned about everyone's different customs and enjoy all the differences. Then we eat delicious food and have lively conversations about whatever comes up.
There is no requirement to reciprocate. Many of us have lots of room and like to cook. Bring with you your Shabbat customs (or just enjoy watching what the host family does)
You don't need to keep Kosher to join us. You just need to have an empty nest. If you have college age kids who live home or graduates who have returned home, we won't turn you away if you'd like some adult company for an evening.
It has come to our attention that people might not be attending because they aren't sure if they "qualify". This is NOT an exclusive club. If you think it would be fun and you are generally in the Empty Nesters range, give it a try! Don't be shy! We'd love for you to join us! For more information or to RSVP email or call Barbara & Dave Zucker 845-928-6906 Email Barbara and Dave Zucker
KEN, in Hebrew means both "yes" and "nest" **you don't have to be Kosher to join us!
